Altered Autonomic Functions in Exam Stress: Cardiovascular-Pulmonary Interactions

چکیده
Background: Medical training involves a long and exhaustive curriculum in which students are frequently evaluated by examinations. Pre-examination stress is common condition faced prior to exams one of the most widely experienced problems for medical students. The aim study was assess effects exam on autonomic nervous system functions through cardiovascular parameters respiratory tests. Materials Methods: group consisted 29 second-year This cross-sectional carried out from February March 2020 at Harran University, Turkey. used were oxygen saturation, pulse rate (PR), systolic (SBP) diastolic blood pressure (DBP), pulmonary function Data collected four times during an period. Results: There statistically significant difference between measurements PR, SBP, DBP different (p˂0.001; p=0.001; p=0.003, respectively). It found that caused increase lung function. results correlation analysis showed negative relationship Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume 1 second (FEV1), (VC). Conclusion: As result sympathetic induction, hemodynamic tests increased gradually until examination. presence PR FEV1, FVC, VC indicates physiological compensation occurs dynamic balance cycle PR. thought sinus arrhythmia contributes this mechanism.

Cardiovascular autonomic functions & cerebral autoregulation in patients with orthostatic hypotension
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Patients of orthostatic hypotension may or may not have symptoms of the cerebral hypoperfusion despite fall in the blood pressure. The present study was done to quantify autonomic functions and cerebral autoregulation in patients of orthostatic hypotension with or without symptoms. METHODS The study was conducted in 15 patients of orthostatic hypotension and 15 age, se...

Different investigations have shown the stressfulness of exam periods and exam situations, manifested in increase of anxiety, depressiveness and negative emotional states as the exam approaches (Ellis & Fox, 2004; Gruzelier, Smith, Nagy, & Henderson, 2001; Laidlaw, Naito, Dwivedi, Enzor, & Brincat, 2003; Oaten & Chang, 2005; Ogden & Mtandabari, 1997; Vivian, Koh, & Chia, 2003). متن کاملEffect of Pranayama on stress and cardiovascular autonomic function.
The stress either physical or mental, leads to cardiovascular morbidity. Newly admitted medical students are likely to be exposed to various stresses like change of environment, demanding medical education and different teaching protocol in a medical college. Pranayama is known since ancient times to relieve stress and stabilize autonomic function of the body. Therefore it was decided to study ...
متن کاملAutonomic cardiovascular regulation in obesity.
Obese persons suffer from an increased mortality risk supposedly due to cardiovascular disorders related to either continuously lowered parasympathetic or altered sympathetic activation. Our cross-sectional correlation study establishes the relationship between obesity and autonomic regulation as well as salivary cortisol levels. Three patient cohorts were sampled, covering ranges of body mass ...
متن کاملAltered cardiac autonomic nervous function in depression
BACKGROUND Depression is an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. Autonomic instability may play a mediating or moderating role in this relationship; however this is not well understood. The objective of this study was to explore cardiac autonomic function and cardiac arrhythmia in depression, the correlation between depression severity and Heart Rate Variability (HRV) related in...
